OP Mayor Announces Candidacy For Clay County Board of Commissioners

Orange Park, FL, January 8, 2020 – Orange Park Mayor Connie Thomas formally filed this week to run for Clay County Commissioner in District 3.

“In 2019 I became the People’s Mayor of our great Town, and in 2020 I hope to become the People’s Commissioner of our great County,” Thomas said, adding that with her term ending as Mayor in May of 2020, she can continue her work with a larger vision.

“If elected, I will be able to amplify the Town of Orange Park as well as help uplift the north end of Blanding,” she said, noting that this area is especially important to her since it is where she attended high school. District 3 also encompasses the Bellair and Moody Road areas as well as the east side of Fleming Island where Thomas’ counseling practice resides.

“I have a community-driven focus in my leadership role in the Town of Orange Park where my hands on approach has brought about results. This will absolutely continue,” said Thomas.

Thomas plans to bring businesses together along the north end of Blanding, Kingsley, Wells and Hwy 17 by conducting roundtable discussions for each segment. “I want to strategize ways to increase commerce and thrive as a gateway to Clay County,” she said.

Bringing extensive experience with environmental issues to the Board of Commissioners is uppermost in Thomas’ plans. “I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge while serving on a federal panel through the Centers for Disease Control. I will use this experience to help deal with our waterways and flooding issues.”

Thomas says she will continue her monthly Town Hall Meetings with the citizens of the Town of Orange Park and also add on the entire District 3 public. “My success as Mayor for the Town of Orange Park has hinged on partnering with our wonderful community,” Thomas said. “If elected to the County Board, I look forward to continuing with that success by uniting with the broader District 3 community.”
